I started a doc back in 2012 with this question.
What Makes a Great Teacher? – Rick H
If I was to show you the original document you would laugh.
I was not using any punctuation what so ever.
For some reason, I had the urge to put my thoughts on paper.
This blog post entry is to try to understand why? I would take time out of my day and write down this notes.
What Makes a Great Teacher?
Honestly, I still don’t have the answer to this question but I have thought about it for some serious amount of time since back in those days.
Here is what I wrote in that document.
- Encourage students to dig deeper into subjects
- Open curiosity for other topics
- Understanding Theories
- Let the student learn for them selfs
- Make the most from an experience
- Observation of behavior
- Practical experience
- Real world experience
- Significant experiences
- Encourage rethinking conclusions
Just a list.
In the doc, I also shared some thoughts that I had about a Math class that I was taking and all of the students that were either failing the class or switching majors. I made a specific note about race and gender and how those two impact the actual outcome that the student was getting.
What’s the answer to the question?
Still searching for it.
